Castle Coch - Tongwynlais #Travel

17:45:00

Castle Coch in Tongwynlais has the most gorgeous ascent towards the top. Climbing the mountain you can lose yourself in the nearby forest and even stumble upon a sculpture trail. It's one of my favourite and most nostalgic walks. Having it so near means that I rarely go into the castle itself. You know what I mean right? Generally, we do the usual tourist sight seeing when we're far from home.

My family are here from the states and of all the times we've made a post feast venture up to the castle they've never been in! So we bit the bullet, a very small £6 per adult bullet and it was so worth it! In the last few years the castle has really changed, there used to be only 1 room open for viewing but now there's a whole host. You can visit the bedrooms, dining halls and even get the to top of the castle for ultimate viewing pleasure.

Most of the castle has been reconstructed with the original base still in place. The architecture is still beautiful and given the name, features gorgeous red beams throughout. Coch meaning red in Welsh. A spoken guide mp3 is available from the front desk and is included in your ticket price. The informative notations placed around the different rooms tell the tale of the castle, which has had many appearances in motion picture. From the likes of Dr Who, Torchwood to Dick & Dom and does anyone remember Worst Witch? The castle boasts a quaint tea room for you to stop and a take it all in or head to the forest tea rooms nestled within forest Fawr.

Until next time ... xo
